SAFEGUARDING POLICY

Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults is of key importance at JTL.  At JTL this means that everyone must:

  • Provide a safe environment for children, young people and vulnerable adults to learn; and
  • Identify children, young people and vulnerable adults who are suffering or likely to suffer significant harm and take appropriate action with the aim of making sure they are kept safe both at home, in employment and in the learning setting.

 JTL has developed and will promote systems that are designed to:

  • Prevent unsuitable people working with children, young people and vulnerable adults;
  • Promote safe practice and challenge poor and unsafe practice;
  • Identify instances in which there are grounds for concern about a young person’s welfare, and initiate or take appropriate action to keep them safe; and
  • Contribute to effective partnership working between all those involved with providing services to children and young people.

 “Children and young people” mean those under the age of 18.  “Vulnerable adult” means a person who is in receipt of or may need community care services by reason of mental or other disability, age, illness and who is or may be unable to take care of themselves or unable to protect themselves against significant harm, exploitation or abuse.  Abuse can be physical abuse, neglect, sexual abuse or emotional abuse.

All employees, regardless of their role, and including those that work with JTL on an ad hoc or sub-contract basis will be expected to be aware of, and comply with our safeguarding policies and procedures.

It is a criminal offence for ‘barred’ individuals to work, or apply to work, with children, young people or vulnerable adults.  JTL also have a duty to refer information about individuals working with children, young people or vulnerable adults where it is considered that they may have caused harm or pose a risk of harm.

JTL has a comprehensive safeguarding policy which is updated regularly and all staff are expected to complete mandatory training at least annually.
